First class with Akerlof, nobel laureate in economics of 2001. This course he is teaching–marcoeconomic theory I–understandably has excess demand. With limited space in the classroom and absence of a market to trade seats students will, naturally, have to resolve the shortage through non-price competition; so I expect people coming in earlier next lecture. Akerlof is quite humorous–for example, he suggested students without a seat to steal chairs from nearby classrooms, but should try to do so invisibly. I can sense that the course is going to be tough though, augmented with plenty of reading assignments.
